A Historic Journey
Hello, we’re Brent and Erin Howell. Our multi-use building was originally built in 1951 by the Horton family as both their home and a store selling hardware, guns and ammunition, and fishing gear.

Maybelle Horton, the family matriarch, even started Auke Bay’s first (and possibly only) library inside the building. In the 1960s, the property was expanded with a large warehouse addition, and in the late 1970s a second floor was built, adding motel units and two one-bedroom apartments—one for Dave Horton (the original owner) and another for the caretaker. Back then, Auke Bay was little more than a small stop on Juneau’s road system.

Since those early days, Auke Bay has grown into a lively hub, with shops, salons, restaurants, a bar, a brewery, and a bustling harbor. Several years ago, we purchased the property from Brent’s father, determined to preserve its history while giving it new life.
Remodeling for a New Generation
The remodel has truly been a labor of love (and a lot of elbow grease)—Erin has personally led much of the work to transform the motel’s rooms and suites into bright, cozy spaces that feel unpretentious yet elevated. From your doorstep, you can step onto a whale-watching tour, join a fishing charter, paddle a kayak into the bay, or simply sip a coffee while watching the harbor’s daily rhythm. Directly across from Statter Harbor, our location offers some of the best views Juneau has to offer—morning to night, every day of the year. Whether you’re here for adventure or to slow down and soak in the scenery, we’re proud to offer more than just a place to stay. We invite you to experience a piece of Auke Bay’s history, its community, and its wild, unforgettable beauty.

Adventure Awaits

You'll have the best views in Juneau, all day every day. The apartment is located within a mixed-use building in the heart of Auke Bay, about a 20-minute drive from downtown Juneau. The building also hosts multiple restaurants, salons, bar (located at the opposite end of the building), a newly opened art gallery showcasing Alaskan artists, as well as a laundromat. Next door is a brewery/restaurant and yoga studio. You will also be right across the street from Statter Harbor where you can rent kayaks, and where the majority of Juneau's summertime excursions, whale watch tours and fishing charters begin.
